CLIENT REVIEWS

Advance Music was approached by Burlington Electric regarding a grant program to upgrade the ancient lighting in our retail store. During our first meeting they recommended Mel Buss as a lighting consultant as we certainly had no skills in this area. I must say it was a true pleasure dealing with Mel and the expertise he brought to the table on this project. Mel suggested things that we would have never thought of, and even when I questioned his design choices, he patiently explained his design and in seeing the finished product, he was right in every area. The store looks a million times better, sales are up, people comment on the great change, and our power bill went down….win, win, win! I would strongly recommend Mel to anyone looking for lighting design.

We wanted to take a moment to personally thank you for the analysis and design you did regarding our lighting needs. The installation of fixtures and bulbs has been completed and we are now basking in a better lit, more secure environment thanks to your efforts. Should we ever have a need for future lighting analysis and design, we know who to call. If we know or hear of someone who might need your service, we will most certainly know who to recommend.

During the first part of 2013, the Property Committee at the First Unitarian Universalist Society Burlington spent considerable time discussing ways to improve the east exterior lighting that would serve to enhance life safety issues in an aesthetically pleasing way. A member of the Property Committee who was employed by a local electric utility company suggested that we contract Buss Lighting to provide a lighting plan that would be sustainable, energy efficient and aesthetically appealing. Another key piece of the design work we required included Buss Lighting providing all the necessary work including photometric analysis that is mandated by Burlington Planning and Zoning in order to receive necessary permits.

To summarize the FUUSB’s relationship with Buss Lighting, I would say that we were most pleased with Mel’s participation and input during all the phases of the project, from initial design work through the monitoring of the installation. Mel actually went beyond the scope of work agreement to insure that the FUUSB was completely satisfied with the end product.

We have a large campus with many different departments and common areas. You were able to “make sense” of our lighting needs and have them work nicely with our Energy Savings Initiative….….. you understood our needs and worked toward that end…….. understanding our lighting needs and not over lighting which was a concern of ours. You did great work and I would recommend you to others.
Richard Morley, Vice President Support Services, Central Vermont Medical Center
Working with Buss lighting has been an excellent relationship. The absence of dealing with energy saving calculations …. has allowed our hospital to concentrate on field work ….

Buss Lighting’s knowledge on products existing and in design by the lighting industry has been a huge help for our facility.

The control industry is constantly evolving and with the latest national lighting codes changes Buss Lighting keeps us in compliance in our designs.

PRESS RELEASE, Central Vermont Medical Center

In early 2016, Central Vermont Medical Center earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) coveted ENERGY STAR designation, which signifies the facility performs in the top 25 percent of all hospitals nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict facility performance levels established by the EPA.  CVMC has improved the ENERGY STAR score for their entire Berlin campus by over 50 points.

This achievement is an amazing milestone for the hospital’s five-year “Energy Savings Initiative”, which has reduced energy consumption by 28 percent—an unprecedented mark for a Vermont hospital.

Major projects implemented by UVM Health Network – Central Vermont Medical Center include:

  • Upgrade of hospital lighting to more efficient technologies
    • Working with Buss Lighting, a comprehensive lighting audit and design for the hospital and campus medical office buildings was conducted to identify opportunities to improve the quality, controllability, and energy performance of lighting systems.
    • Existing T8 fluorescent lighting was converted to LED troffers with integrated controls, with many existing fixtures eliminated due to improved light distribution by new LEDs.
    • When all lighting upgrades are complete (expected at end of 2016), CVMC will have cut electricity use for lighting systems by over 60 percent, while dramatically improving light quality and adding controls through the process.
